Fragments of Spain

The Spain Mini’s collection brings together a series of intimate paintings inspired by the atmosphere, color, texture, and visual character associated with Spain. Created on a smaller scale, these works offer a more concentrated exploration of the elements that continually draw me to landscape and place—the relationship between color, light, surface, and memory.
Rather than attempting to document a particular location, these paintings translate impressions of Spain into abstract compositions. Shapes, colors, and gestures become fragments of an experience rather than literal representations. Warm earth tones, deep blues, mineral greens, weathered neutrals, and unexpected flashes of color create a visual language that suggests architecture, coastline, terrain, and changing light without defining them.
The smaller format of these works is an important part of the collection. Working at this scale encourages a different kind of attention. Every mark becomes more immediate, while layers of paint and texture create depth within a confined space. The paintings can be experienced closely, allowing subtle details, edges, gestures, and variations in surface to reveal themselves gradually.
As with my larger paintings, the process is intuitive. I begin with an idea or feeling rather than a fixed image, allowing the composition to develop through layers, movement, and response. Some marks remain visible while others are partially covered, creating a sense of history within the surface. The finished work becomes a balance between intention and discovery.
For me, Spain Mini’s is ultimately about how a place can remain with us through fragments—the memory of a color, the feeling of light on a surface, the rhythm of a landscape, or an impression that cannot quite be described in words. Each small painting holds one of these moments, transformed into an abstract visual experience.
- Intimate Scale — Small-format works designed to invite close and personal viewing.
- Inspired by Spain — Drawn from impressions of Spanish landscapes, light, color, and atmosphere.
- Abstract Interpretation — Places are suggested through gesture, texture, and color rather than literal representation.
- Layered Surfaces — Built through expressive marks, overlapping forms, and changing layers of paint.
- Intuitive Process — Each composition develops organically through experimentation and discovery.
- A Sense of Place — The collection explores how memories and impressions of a landscape can become visual experiences.
Spain Mini’s is a collection of small paintings with a larger sense of place—fragments of landscape, memory, and atmosphere distilled into intimate works of abstraction.
