The Sea of Cortez

MINDSCAPES – The Sea of Cortez

Where desert meets sea, and landscape becomes memory, emotion, and experience.

The Sea of Cortez is a place of striking contrasts—vast desert landscapes meeting brilliant blue water, rugged shorelines opening into quiet coves, and expansive skies changing with the light. MINDSCAPES – The Sea of Cortez explores these contrasts through an abstract and intuitive visual language.

Rather than depicting literal views, these paintings interpret the experience of being there. Turquoise blues, warm earth tones, muted neutrals, and shifting horizons become layered forms, textures, and gestures. The landscape is filtered through memory and emotion, allowing the paintings to move beyond representation into something more personal.

I am particularly interested in the tension between opposites: stillness and movement, warmth and coolness, openness and intimacy. The Sea of Cortez holds all of these qualities at once. Its rugged beauty can feel immense and powerful, yet its quiet moments invite reflection and stillness.

Through this collection, I seek to capture that emotional landscape—the feeling of standing where desert meets sea, where the horizon seems endless and time slows down. Each painting becomes its own mindscape, shaped not only by the place that inspired it but by the memories and emotions that remain long after leaving.

MINDSCAPES invites you to look beyond the landscape itself and consider the places, moments, and memories that stay with you long after you have gone.
